Away from the hustle and bustle of the strip, the Gold Coast hotel and casino has a lot to offer its guests, the Spanish style property has 711 guest rooms, an 86,000 sq ft casino and amazingly a 70-lane bowling alley. It is located just half a mile from china town and a mile west of the strip. They offer a convenient shuttle service to both their sister hotels and the strip.
Rooms:
The rooms are small at the Gold Coast, some how the management has managed to pack all you need in to just 360sq ft, they are also pretty basic, with fairly cheap fittings, you do however get a flat screen TV, a hair dryer, iron and a coffee machine but no safe. The beds are comfy and the housemaids keep the rooms nice and clean. Due to the lay out of the rooms you don’t get a great big window to look out of, but that didn’t really bother me too much as there isn’t a lot to see anyway. The bathrooms are tiny, but there is everything you would expect, bath with shower, sink and WC and a small window. There are plenty of freebies too.
Gaming:
The casino unlike the rooms is fairly big, well set out and easy to get round there is around 86,000 sq ft of tables and slots, it even has a non-smoking poker room and BINGO!! You can bet on the tables from around $5 and I didn’t notice any games missing, if you look around you can occasionally find the odd table that start at $3, there are slot machines galore, over 2100 of them and they payout pretty well. The cocktail service is good and if you tip well the waitresses will look you after.
Dining:
There is a lot of choice of places to eat at GC from a quick snack to a sit down meal; they are all of a good standard for the price you’ll pay.
Cortez Room is the GC answer to fine dining; they have an informal atmosphere and have a menu, which offers great steaks, and prime ribs. Ping Pang Pong as the name suggests is their Asian offering, it serves authentic Chinese dishes. If you like rustic and hearty Italian cuisine you should try Arriva, there is also a fresh seafood restaurant called Captain Charlie’s where you can see your meal being prepared in front of you. Visit Terrible Mikes if you just want to grab a dog or a burger. The buffet is pretty good value it wasn’t the best I’ve visited but it has a great selection of dishes to choose from.
Overall:
Book directly on line for the best deals, you can pick a room up for the night from as low as $48. If you are a BINGO freak then this is the place for you.
