At the northern end of the strip, The Mirage want to give you the feeling of walking into an Oasis, a magical garden of Eden with a casino and 3049 guest rooms thrown in for good measure, it certainly would have felt that way if it hadn’t of been for the hundreds of guests milling around the casino floor and the lobby. Having said that our check in was pretty efficient and didn’t take too long and the waiting was kept to a minimum by the helpful staff.

Room:

The rooms at The Mirage Las Vegas were clean and tidy but I have to say not as fancy as some of the newer resorts along the strip. They offered everything you would expect from a quality hotel, iron, safe, hairdryer, TV and a well stocked mini bar. The rooms had good views across the strip. The beds were very comfortable and the linen had a nice quality feel to it.

I was told that the guestrooms start to be refurbed in Feb. ’08.

Gaming:

The 100,000 sq ft casino has a great atmosphere, mins start at $10 on the tables but at busier times they soon go up to $25. The slots start from a penny. The waitresses are attentive, friendly and keep you well watered.

Dining:

The Mirage has a vast array of dining experiences on offer, if you fancy a sandwich the size of a house visit Carnegie Deli. I can safely say I’ve never tried to eat so much meat in one sitting sat between two slices of bread, the chicken salad was great and as with the sandwiches the drinks come super sized as well, not bad value for around $10 for a sandwich. Fin, offers contemporary Chinese. Visit Japoniase for excellent sushi and pan-asian cuisine. If a steak takes your fancy, Kokomo’s is great but a little pricey or try Samba’s Brazilian Steakhouse where flanks of meat are brought to your table for you to be served as much or as little as you like. Onda serves Italian and new American style food and Stack, my personal favourite, serves seafood, steaks and chicken, it also has a great bar where you can just relax with a drink and people watch.

Night Life:

Jet, The Mirages exclusive nightclub, is to say the least difficult to get into, unless you are female, all the girls I met got comp passes. After a bit of persuasion and $200 bucks the host let my three friends and I in. Jet has 3 rooms, the main room offers Rock, Hip Hop and Dance, the 2nd DJ spun house and the 3rd room give an eclectic mix of 80’s to current rock, drinks were on the pricey side but hey we had a great time.

Overall:

A great hotel and Casino, rooms were expensive at $349.00 + tax per night. Once refurbed I think The Mirage will be back at the top of everyone’s list of Las Vegas hotels to stay at.
