New York-New York

Review this hotel

From the outside a lot of thought and effort has gone into the design and architecture of the property, mimicking the New York skyline this is probably the most realistic themed resorts in Las Vegas.

Check in was slow and you got the feeling that service was not New York-New York’s strongest point.

Expect to pay around $99 per night.

Rooms:

They are smaller than average but come with good views, either a king or two queens and you’ll find everything you need, Iron and ironing board, safe and TV. The closet space is minimal. The bathrooms are even smaller and aren’t anything to shout about and the freebies are a bit low rent. If you prefer a bit more room try sweet talk the girls on reception into giving you a Broadway deluxe room, they are slightly bigger at 500 sq ft, about average for Vegas and a bit fancier. Be warned though, get a room near the roller coaster and it will be noisy

Gaming:

The casino at New York-New York covers about 84,000 sq ft and surrounded by reproductions of NY landmarks and has an enormous apple shaped disco ball taking centre stage, it can get crowded and a little noisy but has a good atmosphere. The cocktails are average and again service is pretty poor, so don’t expect to get too drunk for free.

There are plenty of tables, we found the odd black jack table with $5 minimums but on average you are looking at $10 minimums on most. The slots here are tight, you can play from a penny up to $100

Dining:

There is very little to shout about restaurant wise, there are three in total and they are all cheap and cheerful.

Gonzalez Y Gonzalez is has the feel of a New York eatery and tequila bar and is open all day from 11am

Il Fornaio opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it serves authentic Italian cuisine, it gets busy so book first.

Nine Fine Irishmen, with music and live entertainment, a full menu of Irish fare and drinks. This authentic Irish pub opens for lunch and dinner.

Overall:

Poor service and small rooms, it isn’t the best Las Vegas has to offer, however you get what you pay for.
